Position: Non-Teaching Head of Year (6th Form) Contract Type: Full-Time, long-term to permanent Job Description An ‘Outstanding’ school in Newham are seeking a dedicated and experienced ‘Non-Teaching Head of Year’ to join them from September, focusing on the pastoral care and behavioural support of their Year 12 and Year 13 students. In its last OFSTED report, the sixth form was graded as ‘Outstanding’ and nearly all students achieve examination results that are well above the national average. As the Non-Teaching Head of Year for 6th Form, you will play a crucial role in the pastoral and behavioural development of the school’s students. You will work closely with Year 12 and Year 13 students, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to help them navigate their academic journey and personal growth. Head of Year - Key Responsibilities: Pastoral Care: Provide individual support to students, addressing personal, social, and emotional issues. Foster a positive and inclusive environment... that promotes student well-being. Behavioural Support: Implement and monitor behaviour management strategies, ensuring a respectful and conducive learning atmosphere. Address behavioural concerns promptly and effectively. Mentorship: Offer guidance and advice on academic progression, career aspirations, and personal development. Assist students in setting and achieving their goals. Parent and Guardian Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teaching staff, counsellors, and other support services to ensure a holistic approach to student development. Administrative Duties: Manage student records, monitor attendance, and ensure compliance with school policies and procedures. Head of Year - Qualifications and Experience: Relevant experience in pastoral care, behaviour management, or a similar role within an educational setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively. A compassionate and empathetic approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting student well-being and success.
