Responsibilities:
The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all financial and contractual aspects of construction projects. This includes quantity take-off, cost estimation, budget control, procurement, contract administration, and cost analysis. The role involves collaboration with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are executed efficiently and cost-effectively.
Duties include:
● Study the contract documents to become thoroughly acquainted with BOQ, methods of measurement, scope of work, conditions of contract, and specifications of the project.
● Coordinates with the Project Manager and Contracts Administrator on the need to raise a variation when there are differences... between the Contract Documents and the Issued for Construction (IFC) Documents.
● Assists in the preparation of the supporting documents of the project’s claims (quantify with substantiations, building-up rates, break-ups, etc.).
● Highlights potential areas where cost can be claimed by the Contracts Administrator and Project Manager.
● Review and thoroughly check job budget and project cost reports from the cost control department.
● Verifies Material Requisition Forms (MRF) by checking the quantities against budgeted quantities to ensure that they are within the Budget and making sure that the ordered items comply with contract specifications.
● Highlight any anticipated cost variances on the projects to the project manager and contracts administrator.
● Verifies the progress (either quantities or percentages) of the site, prepares Client Billing, reconciles the actual progress with the client representative and follow up on its approval from the Client.
● Prepares variation orders in coordination with Construction, Engineering, and Planning functions and follow up on their approval by the Client.
● Performs quantity take-off based on the methods of measurements as set in the contract documents (for both variations and final measurement of the projects).
● Prepares the as-built quantification for re-measurement contracts as specified in the contract.
● Verifies the progress of subcontractors on site and prepares their progress reports and payment certificates accordingly.
● Performs daily site visits.
● Prepare progress reports which will include actual costs and manpower requirements to date and the forecasted costs and manpower requirements to complete the project (Cost to Complete).
● Assists the planning team in the preparation of manpower/equipment productivity reports.
● Contribute to the preparation of the daily/weekly/monthly site report.
● Attend weekly progress meetings and weekly coordination meetings.
● Provide proposed cost to complete analysis to Project Manager and head office.
● Contributes to the Cost Control section of the Job Close-Out Report, incorporating differences between the Job Estimate, Job Budget, and the actual cost of the project.
Skills, qualifications, and experience
To become an administrator, professionals should have a Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field.
Skills and experience can include:
● 3-5 years of Proven experience in cost estimation and quantity surveying within the construction industry.
● Proficiency in cost estimation software (AutoCAD, Planswift, etc.).
● Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
● Knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and industry regulations.
● A deep understanding of construction materials, methods, and industry standards is essential.
● Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Office management software
● Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
